+JMJ...I really like this store and its super friendly and knowledgeable staff. Though I am not a gardener, I have found myself visiting this store to purchase gardening supplies, tools and plants. The staff have always been very, very helpful by making suggestions as to best plant food. And, one helped me to make the best decision regarding good quality but inexpensive gardening tools. Ace will remain my Number 1 choice for feature gardening supplies shopping. Oh, something else. It has been a few months since my last visit but something else that I think gives sort of a family, homey atmosphere is the bag of FREE popcorn! A nice little snack!
I called Cottonwood Ace telling them I needed four gallons of a stock color Ace Brand stain. Ace man said they had three but could order one more gallon. I said OK, order it and I'll come in and get them. Ace man said I'd have to come in a pay for the one gallon, a whopping $26. I explained I lived 15 miles away and didn't really want to spend hour + driving there and back, (yes it takes that long) to get them to stock one more gallon of paint "No can do" said the ACE man. "All special orders have to be prepaid". I said to Ace man asking you to stock one more gallon of an Ace Paint is not really a special order. Ace man said "it's company policy". I replied I thought Ace was know for Service and if wanted to treated like this I would just shop at the Home Depot.
Slow service, many of the employees are upset when you ask them for help, prices are high, and the $6 charge to rekey a door knob, something that is free at home Depot a mile away, is just riddiculous. Avoid this place if possible.
Now wouldn't you think a hardware store with a couple million $$ in inventory could handle stocking one more gallon of a Ace brand paint they currently stock if I didn't come in and buy that gallon?
